It is my pleasure to welcome you and your child to Room 18. I am so excited to get to know and work with your children! In our classroom we emphasize peer communication/interactions, positive attitudes toward learning, and building independence.  Students will also learn and practice skills that promote academic and social success.  Tk and Kinder are important years in your child’s growth.  Working on homework together in Kinder, coming to meetings like Back-to-School Night, PTA functions, Open House, and school events are some great ways to send a powerful message to your child.

In order to achieve our goals, we will need to communicate from time to time. The best way to contact me with questions or concerns is to e-mail me at: bpowles@srvusd.net.

FOLDER

Your child has been given a folder. This folder goes back and forth to school daily, and is incorporated in the student’s routine. When we are sending important or timely documents home for you, we will give you a heads up to check the folder. Please get in the habit of checking it daily and placing it back in your student’s backpack each evening.

We always like to recognize children’s birthdays. Each child’s birthday will be celebrated at school with special activities, stories, and songs for the birthday child. We have:

11 Friends

A few reminders...

  • Children may share a treat with their friends (a pencil, a sticker, an eraser, etc.) or donate a book to our classroom library. This is entirely optional.
  • You may send the treat to school with your child the day you wish to celebrate.
  • Please do not send in food treats to share, as our birthdays are concentrated together.

Academics

We believe that all learning should include a multi-sensory approach that hones in on all learning styles:  Auditory, Visual, Kinesthetic, and Tactile.  We are hoping to incorporate multiple means of engagement (seeing, hearing, moving, and feeling) for all the subject areas.  We will be doing Math and English/Language Arts using stations.  The stations will incorporate educational games, independent work, and guided practice.  A segment of most days will be devoted to working on student’s specific IEP goals in small groups.  We will also be participating in Social Studies, Science, P.E, and Art with other members of Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten .
